METHODOLOGICAL NOTES
- This dashboard will be updated weekly.
- New admissions and total hospitalization data come from the Health Electronic Response Data System (HERDS). Hospitals are required to complete this survey each Wednesday for the prior Sunday – Saturday time period.
- As of 10/7/25, these data are reported weekly. Prior to this date, COVID-19 hospitalizations were reported on a daily basis. Historical daily data can be accessed via this Open Data COVID-19 hospitalizations file.
- Due to pauses in reporting on certain holidays, data prior to October 2025 may occasionally contain reporting for 6- or 8-day weeks.
- These data include NYS resident and non-NYS resident hospitalizations.
- As of 10/13/23, HERDS no longer collects information on COVID patients admitted to the ICU while hospitalized. Historical COVID ICU totals are available via this Open Data COVID-19 hospitalizations file.
- Population Data: The 2018 US Census Bridged Race Categories file was used for population estimates for 2020-2022. From 2023 on, the US Census Population and Housing Unit Estimates Program will be used for population estimates.
