Test results data come from the Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS), a NYSDOH database that contains reported results from all the labs testing samples from New York State residents.
-
Case data are updated Monday-Friday. Data are published on a three-day lag in order to allow all test results to be reported.
-
Both PCR and antigen laboratory test results are included in this analysis. Summaries are based on date of specimen collection. As of September 1, 2023, positive results on this page represent all positive tests reported to New York State, including both first infections and reinfections. Before this date, reinfections were not included in the cases by age analysis. The archived cases by age dataset that does not include reinfections is available here.
- A positive result is deemed a reinfection if it meets either of the following criteria:
- It has been 90 days since the first positive result for the person, regardless of whether or not the person had a positive test between the two results.
- It has been 90 days since the repeat positive result for the person, regardless of whether or not the person had a positive test between the two results.

New admissions and total hospitalization data come from the Health Electronic Response Data System (HERDS). Hospitals are required to complete this survey Monday through Friday and data reflect information reported by hospitals through the survey each day. These data include NYS resident and non-NYS resident hospitalizations in NYS facilities.
-
Health care facilities pause COVID-19 data submission through HERDS during weekends and certain holidays. Therefore, the dashboard will show no data for those dates. The first reporting date thereafter will contain those data and estimated 7-day averages are provided for all days.
